Dimes
Mint engraver Charles Barber designed the first Liberty head dimes, as well as quarters and halves. These “Barber Dimes” were primarily composed of silver and were produced in 1892-1916. In 1916 a revised Liberty head design was introduced with wings on her cap, earning it the name “Mercury Dime.” Since 1946, dimes have featured the profile of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. As with quarters and halves, silver was primarily used to make dimes through 1964.
